Profiles : STEPHEN T. SMITH
STEPHEN
T. SMITH received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Austin College in 1989. He
subsequently attended the University of Houston Law School where he received his
Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1992. During his tenure at the University of Houston,
he served as Case Note and Comment Editor of the Houston Journal of International
Law and published an article concerning the Oil pollution Act of 1990. Following
his admission to the State Bar of Texas in 1992, Mr. Smith began his legal career
with a well-established Houston, Texas law firm where he handled maritime and
general insurance defense matters. Mr. Smith has subsequently expanded his practice
to include the representation of insurance carriers and employers before the United
States Department of Labor, Texas Workers' Compensation Commission and Texas Workforce
Commission, as well as before the district and appellate courts in Texas and Oklahoma.
Mr. Smith maintains an active practice in the defense of Federal and State Workers'
Compensation matters, including gross negligence, wrongful death actions, professional
liability, products liability and employment discharge matters. In
1999, Mr. Smith began Smith & Carr, P.C. Mr. Smith has expanded the firm's
practice to include the handling of insurance, labor and employment, personal
injury and professional liability matters. Mr.
Smith is licensed to practice law in the State of Texas, the State of Oklahoma
and in the United States District Courts for the Southern, Eastern and Western
Districts of Texas. Mr. Smith is a frequent lecturer at continuing education programs
and seminars for insurance professionals and employers. Mr.
Smith is board certified in workers' compensation law by the Texas Board of Legal
